About

Martin Söderbacka is a jazz guitarist and composer based in Kokkola, Finland. Martin composes music for own groups and co-leads several bands together with his wife, bassist Eevalotta Matikainen. Martin plays in groups Soul What? feat. Joonatan Rautio, Söderbacka-Matikainen Duo, SM4 with David Lyttle (IRL) & Siim Aimla (EST), JazzAcc 4tet and Bröder Duo among others.

Martin studied music at Novia University of Applied Sciences in Jakobstad and graduated in year 2013. He studied guitar with Niklas Winter, Mathias Sandberg and Teemu Viinikainen.

Martin has since then performed and toured with Söderbacka-Matikainen Duo and collaborated with numerous great guest artists such as: John Stowell (USA), Viktoria Tolstoy (SE), Joris Roelofs (NL), David Lyttle (IRL), Siim Aimla (EST), Daniel Sommer (DK), Joonatan Rautio, Jukka Perko, Teemu Viinikainen, Jussi Lehtonen, Olli Soikkeli, Osmo Ikonen, Sami Saari, Manuel Dunkel, Mikko Gunu Karjalainen, Niklas Winter, Aili Ikonen, Jenny Robson, Nina Mya, Elena Mindru, Jesse Kaikuranta, Mika Mylläri, Mikko Pettinen, Mikko Hassinen, Jaska Lukkarinen, Reiska Laine, Mikael Svarvar, Sid Hille and many more.
